Todd Boehly really did do one of the best pieces of business this summer after selling 24-year-old

Since taking over Chelsea, co-owner Todd Boehly has been criticised for a lot of things.

However, one thing the American should probably now be praised for is selling Mason Mount to Manchester United.

You could have questioned that particular piece of business at the time, with Mount having been one of Chelsea’s best players before his departure. But when you look at the attacking midfielder’s recent performances for his new club and how much the Blues got from his sale, Todd Boehly allowing him to go is starting to look like a bit of a masterstroke.

Mason Mount struggling at Manchester United

There is no denying that Mount is having a hard time at United right now.

The 24-year-old, who has baffled Gabriel Agbonlahor after deciding to take the Red Devils’ legendary No.7 shirt, has failed to score a goal or provide an assist in seven Premier League appearances.

Mount is still quite young and it is early days, so the Englishman has time to turn things around.

But having been sold for £60m with just one year remaining on his contract, as reported by The Guardian, Boehly and Chelsea are now looking like the only winners from this transfer.

Cole Palmer has replaced Mason Mount

Another reason why Boehly is looking like a bit of a genius here is because Chelsea went on to sign Palmer after Mount’s departure, and the England U21 international is absolutely thriving at Stamford Bridge at the moment.

Palmer, who plays in quite similar positions to Mount, has four goal contributions in nine appearances across the Premier League and Carabao Cup for Chelsea this season.

Heading into this weekend, he was also making more progressive passes per 90 minutes than any other Premier League player who had started at least for games, according to OptaJoe.

Palmer is also three years Mount’s junior and was bought for less than what Mount was sold for after joining from Manchester City in a £40m deal (Sky Sports). For now, then, it looks like quite a good trade.
