Estevao Willian shares the message Enzo Maresca gave him before coming on to down Liverpool

Enzo Maresca already seems to be getting the best out of new Chelsea signing Estevao Willian.

Despite still being just 18 years of age and having never played in Europe before, Estevao has managed to make an impact in the Premier League this season.

It was the winger who scored Chelsea‘s winner against Liverpool on Saturday, while he also registered an assist in the 5-1 victory over West Ham United in August.

Following Estevao’s decisive goal versus Liverpool, the Brazilian has spoken to the media and revealed what Maresca said to him before he was introduced to the game.

Enzo Maresca told Estevao Willian to play his ‘own game’

Estevao was fearless and direct when he came on, attacking Liverpool’s defence and goal.

He was encouraged to play his natural game by Maresca, an invitation that the Brazil international took up.

“When I went on, he told me to just play my own game and to try and make an impact,” Estevao was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official club website after the match. “He told me to try and score or create a goal and thankfully I managed to do that.”

Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge liked what he saw from Estevao during his cameo at Stamford Bridge, amazed by the fact that the ex-Palmeiras star knows how to time his run to the back post at his young age.

Blues supporters will be hoping to see more of that when Estevao and the rest of the team take on Nottingham Forest after the international break. With Forest really struggling under new manager Ange Postecoglou right now, they will be expecting a win.

Estevao Willian on his start to life at Chelsea

It is fair to say that Estevao is settling in well at Cobham and that things are going better than he initially expected.

“Things at Chelsea have gone a lot better so far than I maybe imagined,” Estevao said. “I feel so good in training every day and I enjoy every moment.”

While he was unable to score, Alejandro Garnacho also made quite the impact against Liverpool on the opposite flank to Estevao, especially in the first half.

The Argentina international gave Conor Bradley a tough time before the right-back, who was on a yellow card, was taken off at half-time.

Garnacho, Estevao, Pedro Neto and Jamie Gittens are quality winger options for Maresca.
