European giants plan to hand manager new contract to prevent him from joining Chelsea

Chelsea may be forced to make a change in the dugout before the start of next season.

Mauricio Pochettino has not done a great job since arriving at Chelsea, with the Blues currently sitting in 11th in the Premier League.

According to FC Inter News, the club now have an interest in Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi as they contemplate making a change.

However, the same outlet has claimed that the Italian giants are planning to extend Inzaghi’s contract as they try to keep hold of him.

The 47-year-old’s existing deal expires in 2025.

Would Simone Inzaghi be a good replacement for Mauricio Pochettino?

Inzaghi has done an excellent job at Inter, winning two Italian cups and taking the Serie A club to the Champions League final last year.

The former Lazio boss also uses a back three, a set-up Chelsea have obviously had much success with in the past.

Ultimately, if the Blues do need to bring in a new manager for the 2024/25 season, Inzaghi is definitely a name that they should consider.

There is still time for Pochettino to turn things around, though. A top-half finish and success in the FA Cup would probably be enough to keep him in a job.

Winning the FA Cup would earn Chelsea Europa League football as well, and the Blues are not actually far off from reaching the final.

If Pochettino’s side can beat Leicester City, who they play at home, then they will book their place in the semi-finals. The Argentine is alive for now, then, but if he does get the chop, the likes of Inzaghi and Ruben Amorim are potential candidates to come in and replace him.

It has been reported that Chelsea have a long-standing interest in the latter, who is doing well at Sporting Lisbon right now. They are only two points behind first place with a game in hand.
