Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has admitted he’s already a huge fan of Mauricio Pochettino.

Conor Gallagher, who’s 23, has certainly been one of the biggest winners in the squad since Mauricio Pochettino took charge as Chelsea’s head coach in the summer.

The central midfielder has started all six games across all competitions to start the season. In fact, he’s even worn the captain’s armband at times.

We’ve seen the England international divide opinion at times around Stamford Bridge, but he’s certainly emerging as one of the top performers so far under Pochettino.

Gallagher has been signing the praises of his manager in an interview this week.

Speaking via Chelsea’s X account, Gallagher said: “If you had said to me last season that there’s going to be a couple of games where you lead the team out, I still would have laughed at you then as well. That shows the gaffer’s belief in me right now. And ever since I first met him, to be honest, I think a lot of the lads will say the same.

“He’s very honest and open with the players, and I’ve had good chats with him, and I think he appreciates what I can do on the pitch and believes in me. So I’m really grateful for that, and hopefully I can continue to help him and the team get better results.”

Hopefully, Gallagher’s now about to kick on and start to fulfil his true potential under Pochettino. In fairness, we do think people often forget he’s still just a 23-year-old.

One slight problem in the background is Gallagher’s contract, which is due to expire in the summer of 2025.

The Athletic claims this week that Chelsea are not in active talks yet with Gallagher over a new deal.
