Graham Potter has shared that Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling is always brilliant in training and impresses him.

Potter, who became the Chelsea head coach a couple of months ago, has now taken control of a squad stacked with so many top-class players.

He’s managed some excellent individuals throughout his career, but there’s no doubt it’s a big step up in terms of the calibre of player at Stamford Bridge.

For example, he’s now working on a day-to-day basis with four-time Premier League winner Sterling.

The 27-year-old attacker has come under scrutiny recently for the level of his performances dropping off, but Ally McCoist has “no doubt” he’ll soon rediscover his best form.

Raheem Sterling in training

Potter has delivered an intriguing line on what Sterling is like behind the scenes.

Apparently, the England international is delivering to an extremely high standard each day in training at Cobham.

“He’s at a prime age, he’s got all the quality you see every day in training and the desire is there,” Potter said.

Sterling looks from the outside like the ultimate professional when you examine his career so far, which is why it’s no real surprise to hear his manager’s comments.

In fact, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher recently named him as the best trainer in the Blues squad.

Potter will be scratching his head trying to work out the best formula to get the maximum from Chelsea’s talented group of players.

There’s been mixed success at the start of his reign, so fans will just have to be a little patient for now.

The break may be a great period for him to reflect on what’s available to him, but it’s going to feel a lot tougher if Chelsea go into that break off the back of losing to Newcastle United this weekend.

For certain, Sterling will be central to the ideas rushing around Potter’s head.
