Questions are beginning to be asked by some corners of the Chelsea fanbase over Mauricio Pochettino’s job security as manager of Chelsea.
However, when The Chelsea Chronicle spoke to HITC insider Graeme Bailey, he stated that he has heard those in power positions are not expecting to replace him anytime soon.
While the league position will still frustrate some who turn up regularly to Stamford Bridge, they would still have to admit strides have been taken in comparison to where they were under Graham Potter.
Pochettino has led them this season to a place in the EFL Cup semi-finals, where they have a task on their hands turning round a 1-0 deficit to Middlesbrough after their clash at the Riverside.
The second leg to that tie is next week, and while Bailey said there is full belief in the Argentine right now, this could change if they were defeated by their Championship opposition across two legs.
Pochettino Chelsea update
He said: “The message we’re getting is that everyone is completely behind him. There is no expectation that they will need to replace him anytime soon. They fully believe in him. They know as well that they haven’t run the club properly, in terms of letting the manager getting on with things.
“As it stands now they are fully behind him. If they go out to Middlesbrough, if they finish below 10th, then we might need to have a different conversation. But it’s top half minimum.
“You could argue Pochettino has done a good job in the circumstances, but I don’t think the owners necessarily see it that way.”
Even if the Blues were to part ways with the manager at this stage, an obvious replacement does not look readily available to come in and take the squad to where they want to be going.
Nevertheless, the pressure will be felt inside Stamford Bridge when kick-off comes around next Tuesday.
