Chelsea’s top players are preparing to represent their countries at the upcoming World Cup, however the club will be braced for them to be in the shop window at the same time.
A 10th-placed finish in the Premier League has seen Chelsea miss out on any form of European competition for next season, a big blow to their star players.
Even though there is optimism around the hiring of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager, there are still fears that some will have grown tired of the stagnant project at Stamford Bridge.

Marc Cucurella tipped to leave Chelsea after the World Cup
Marc Cucurella is one of those who is reportedly weighing up his future amid interest from the top clubs in La Liga.
The defender is a product of Barcelona’s academy, although Spain teammate Marc Pubill is trying to convince him to join Atletico Madrid.

Fabrizio Romano believes that despite the Blues and the player enjoying a strong relationship, he expects his situation to accelerate after the World Cup is over.
He said on the Here We Go podcast: “Cucurella will be one to watch, definitely. I would not be surprised if after the World Cup, Cucurella leaves Chelsea and tries a new experience. Then this also depends on the proposal, because Cucurella and Chelsea share a very good relationship.
“So if there is an important bid for the club and for the player, Cucurella could be keen and Chelsea could be eventually open to selling, but Chelsea are not giving Cucurella for peanuts. So for sure has to be an important proposal. So at the moment, the understanding is that Spain is eventually the most likely destination.”
Who are YOU most excited to see at the World Cup?
Cucurella not untouchable at Chelsea
Alonso has made it clear already the seven players he will not want to leave the club this summer, including Cole Palmer, Reece James and Moises Caicedo.
Even Josh Acheampong is seen as crucial to the incoming manager, after struggling to find opportunities under Liam Rosenior and Enzo Maresca.
Cucurella was not included in that list, potentially a sign that Alonso is prepared to build his squad without assurances that he will still be at the club.
The same can be said for Enzo Fernandez, who is strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid as the World Cup commences.
