Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea are about to speak about what to do next with their £18m player

Chelsea have not held any talks with Nottingham Forest about Andrey Santos’ lack of game time this season.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who recently gave an update on Andrey Santos‘ situation on Substack.

The midfielder joined Forest on loan from Chelsea in the summer but has only featured in the Premier League once for them.

Romano says the Blues have not held talks with Forest about the situation yet but suggested that his future “will be discussed” after November because they simply can’t be pleased with what is going on right now.

The club would have been hoping to see big things from Santos during his loan spell at the City Ground, with the 19-year-old already a full Brazil international.

Will Chelsea recall Andrey Santos in January?

At this point, they surely have to. And it does look like an option that they are considering, even if they have not spoken to Forest about it yet.

Having overlooked Santos so far, it seems unlikely that Steve Cooper is all of a sudden going to make the midfielder, who cost Chelsea £18m (Daily Mail), a starter.

It will be interesting to see, though, what happens if the Blues do recall Santos in January.

With Mauricio Pochettino currently possessing Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher, just to name a few of his midfield options, there is not any room for Santos.

All in all, this loan spell at Forest is not working out and you would now expect Chelsea to bring Santos back unless there is some sort of miraculous turnaround, which seems highly unlikely.

It is disappointing for the teenager and the club. But at the end of the day, he is not Forest’s player and Cooper is under no obligation to start him. It just means Chelsea have to think twice about who they loan their youngsters out to.
