Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea have now sent scouts multiple times this season to watch one striker in particular.

He told Caught Offside that the Blues have been one of the clubs who have been regularly monitoring RB Leipzig man Benjamin Sesko throughout this campaign.

Sesko sits on 11 goals in all competitions this season, and last night took part in Champions League action against Real Madrid.

Despite an impressive performance in the first leg against Real Madrid, he was unable to really affect proceedings last night at the Bernabeu.

Instead, it was Xavi Simons who had the better display for the visitors, putting in a performance that should be putting sides like Chelsea on note for the transfer window to come.

Sesko meanwhile has already attracted a number of big clubs to be interested in his services, with Chelsea being mentioned as one of those for a number of windows now.

Sesko scouted by Chelsea

This has been as a result of performances which have been described since he joined the Bundesliga side as ‘incredible’.

Romano has claimed that Chelsea have sent scouts a number of times to see the 20-year-old in action this season.

He said: “There are clubs constantly monitoring Sesko since he was already at Salzburg, then he joined Leipzig and they keep following the player. There is also interest from Italy but I think it is going to be complicated for Italian clubs to pay the amount of money for Benjamin Sesko.

“For clubs in England it could be different. For example Chelsea and the same for Arsenal, they have sent their scouts multiple times to follow Sesko. Let’s see now what is going to happen with the new board of Man United. It’s a very open situation for Sesko.”

It is widely expected that Chelsea are going to make a striker their priority for this summer, after neglecting bringing in a big name for the position in previous windows.

Reports have continued to link Napoli forward Victor Osimhen with the deal, and the connections he has off the pitch with the likes of Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel making the links even stronger.

It remains to be seen which big name they look for in the market this summer, as they look to solve their goalscoring woes once and for all.
