Pressure has been slowly mounting on Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca in the early stages of the 2025/26 campaign.

Maresca has overseen just two Premier League victories so far this season, and has been defeated in the last two against Manchester United and Brighton.

Chelsea fans began to turn on Maresca after the loss against Brighton, with them leading the game before a late collapse at Stamford Bridge.

This came as a result of Trevoh Chalobah’s red card, making it two in a row in league games after Sanchez was sent off against United.

The nightmare discipline issue has only continued in their most recent game in the Champions League, when Joao Pedro departed early despite only coming on as a substitute in the second half.

Fabrizio Romano has shared that Maresca has used the red cards as a reason behind why they have been suffering poor results of late, and that the situation is completely under control.

He said: “The Enzo Maresca situation I can guarantee that it is 100% under control at Chelsea. There was a reaction from fans of course their recent games were not at the Chelsea level in terms of results.

“They are together and when I say they it’s the owners, the directors, the board, the technical staff and Maresca. All of the people at the club keep supporting Maresca and believing he is the right man for this project.

“One of the factors has been the red cards. This has been a part of the conversations between Maresca and people at the club to explain why Chelsea didn’t perform the best way in recent games.

“Red cards are a problem and something to assess internally, but Chelsea and Maresca are very happy together, the situation is absolutely under control.”

Chelsea fans need to get on board with Maresca

Maresca is the first manager who Todd Boehly has stuck with into a second season so far, and the results he delivered last season showed why.

He brought two trophies and Champions League football back to West London, and has not been dealt a good hand to start the new campaign.

Cole Palmer, Liam Delap and Levi Colwill have all been missing for at least the majority of the season, and the boss has lost a number of other players to injury too.

There is no better opportunity for the Blues to make a statement that they are still a serious threat than getting a result against league leaders Liverpool on Saturday.
