‘Feels a bit crazy’: Sky journalist shares what will happen to Chelsea’s transfers if Abramovich fails to sell

Chelsea will reportedly no longer be “big players” in the transfer market if current owner Roman Abramovich fails to sell the club.

According to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, the Blues will take a backseat in the transfer window until there is a takeover at Stamford Bridge.

Solhekol explains that the 55-year-old businessman won’t be injecting any extra cash into the club, so Chelsea may be forced to “live within their means” until the ownership changes hands.

The short-term future without any new owner/owners will lead to things being quiet on the transfer front.

Abramovich, who announced on Wednesday his intention to sell Chelsea, is now getting to work on trying to find a buyer.

Several different potential investors are now being linked.

For example, Saudi Arabian billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is named as a potential candidate to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.

Hansjorg Wyss and Todd Boehly are linked with a joint-takeover. Chelsea fan Loutfy Mansour reportedly has his own interest, too.

Chelsea loan stars may be even more crucial

For certain, there are a number of players out on loan this season that can add something to the current Blues squad.

If there are any kind of financial restrictions put on the Blues, they still have a pool of talent they can tap into.

Chelsea-owned striker Armando Broja, who’s tearing it up this season with Southampton, is good enough to challenge for a striker position at the Bridge.

Elsewhere, midfielders such as Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour should come into Thomas Tuchel’s mind.

It may open a door for someone like 18-year-old defender Levi Colwill as well, who’s impressing with Huddersfield Town in the Championship on his loan.
