Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has raved about the quality and potential of one current teammate.

When you look around the current Chelsea squad, it’s absolutely full of ability. The early signs are that Enzo Maresca is the right person in the manager’s dugout to click everything into gear as well.

The Blues sit fourth in the Premier League table after six games to signify a solid start. On top of that, they begin the Conference League group stages on Thursday night at home to Gent.

Chris Sutton has claimed it’s “embarrassing” if Chelsea don’t win the Conference League, so there’s a lot of pressure on this young group.

Filip Jorgensen hails Nicolas Jackson

Filip Jorgensen has just delivered some glowing praise on Chelsea teammate Nicolas Jackson. Incidentally, the duo previously played together at Villarreal in Spain.

The form of Jackson, 23, has been one of the biggest positives in recent weeks. The £32m striker (The Guardian) has scored four goals and made three assists in the opening six gameweeks of the Premier League.

“Nicolas Jackson is my good friend and it was similar to me, playing one year in Villarreal and then moving to Chelsea,” Jorgensen said, as quoted by Chelsea’s official website.

“He came there when I moved up to the Under-19s – and he is a very funny guy, very loud, with a strong character. He didn’t know any Spanish when he came, so I was the one that had to help him there. We had a good relationship at Villarreal.

“We all knew the big, big potential he had, and when he gained some confidence and got to play a bit more, he showed everyone what he was capable of.

“Now at Chelsea he’s more mature. He’s the same guy but he’s maybe got better at all the good qualities he had, and just exploded more. He loves to score goals.”

Nicolas Jackson can’t get complacent

The best thing about this current Chelsea group is that they’ve got pretty much two quality options for every position. Therefore, the key starters in the league can’t get complacent because there’s a teammate on their shoulder waiting to swoop in.

For Jackson, he’s performing superbly well as the club’s first-choice striker. The Senegal international is scoring, assisting and working so hard for Maresca’s team.

However, he’ll be fully aware that Christopher Nkunku is applying some serious pressure behind him.

Nkunku has only started one league match so far this season, but he’s still managed to score six goals in nine appearances across all competitions.
