Ex-Chelsea player Willy Caballero has named Edouard Mendy as the best goalkeeper he’s ever played with.
Caballero was asked to name his dream XI of former teammates by the Southampton media, and Mendy got the nod between the posts.
The two goalies only shared a dressing room for a single season, following Mendy’s £22m arrival from Rennes in 2020.
His fellow shot-stopper set sail for Southampton a year later, yet the pair clearly built up a rapport in a relatively short space of time.

“For me, Edouard Mendy in the last couple of years was the best goalie. Choosing my starting 11 I will say Mendy,” said Caballero on the Senegal international.
N’Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta were the other to make the side, along with Blues of the past Antonio Rudiger and Eden Hazard.
Willy Caballero loves Edouard Mendy
On Mendy, he arguably enjoyed his best spell in a Chelsea shirt whilst the Saints’ ‘keeper was still around at Stamford Bridge.
He kept 25 clean sheets across all competitions, only conceding 30 times along the way.
The 30-year-old’s efforts in the Champions League were especially eye-catching, as he ensured Thomas Tuchel’s then defence remained resolute right through to the victorious final.
UEFA and FIFA awarded Mendy for his contribution by naming him their Goalkeeper of Year.

It’s gradually gone down hill for Chelsea’s number one since then, however.
Misery for Mendy
His numbers, and performances, have decreased as the campaigns have rolled by.
In 2021/22, he kept 23 clean sheets and conceded 40 goals.
This term, Mendy has already let in 15 and kept just one clean sheet.
This downfall has reportedly frustrated Todd Boehly and Graham Potter, causing them to search the market for alternative goalkeepers.
Jordan Pickford has been mentioned as one possibility, the GK who actually knocked Mendy out of the World Cup last weekend.

Mendy himself is apparently resigned to leaving Chelsea, either in January or next summer.
