Frank Lampard now expected to have most impressive season of his managerial career as supercomputer makes Coventry prediction

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard will love the prediction that Opta’s supercomputer has just made about Coventry City’s season.

Lampard took over Coventry last November and has done a fantastic job there, with his side now sitting seventh in the Championship table.

The Sky Blues were on some barren runs against certain teams in the Championship, but Lampard has managed to end a couple of them.

For example, Coventry recently beat Preston North End, ending a streak of 17 years without a league win against them.

Opta supercomputer predicts Coventry to make play-offs

When Lampard succeeded Mark Robins, there is no chance Coventry fans would have been thinking about promotion.

The Chelsea legend found the Midlands club in 17th place, just two points above the relegation zone.

Fast forward to now, though, and supporters can start to dream about promotion to the Premier League and not just because of sentiment following the team’s good run of form.

According to Opta‘s supercomputer, there is a 23.9% chance that Coventry finish fifth and a 19.5% chance they come sixth. Those are the two highest probabilities the supercomputer has given them.

A finish in either place would, of course, see Lampard’s side reach the play-offs and ultimately have a chance at winning promotion.

As for Lampard’s former club Chelsea, they were also on course to have a successful season, based on Opta’s predictions, with England likely to acquire a fifth Champions League spot.

Where Opta’s supercomputer predicted Chelsea to come

Before their 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa over the weekend, Opta had predicted Chelsea to finish in fifth.

With the Premier League set to bag an extra Champions League spot, that would have seen Enzo Maresca‘s men qualify for Europe’s elite competition.

Unfortunately, though, Chelsea are now being predicted to come sixth, which would mean a season in the Europa League.

Lampard could end up having his most impressive campaign as a manager. Taking Coventry from near the relegation zone to the play-offs would be an incredible achievement. Maresca and Chelsea, on the other hand, may be about to have a season to forget, but only time will tell.
