Frank Lebouef has reiterated he’s still a huge fan of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, who’s reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea.

Gvardiol was part of a Leipzig team that were put to the sword yesterday in the Champions League. The German Bundesliga side were thrashed 7-0 away to Manchester City, with Erling Haaland scoring five on the night.

It will have been a humbling experience for Gvardiol, who many talk about as one of the world’s best young defenders.

The 21-year-old’s reputation has soared in the last year due to performances for club and country, but the Croatian is still young enough to improve a lot more.

ESPN pundit Leboeuf won’t change his mind about Gvardiol after Leipzig’s humiliation at Man City.

When discussing Gvardiol to ESPN, Leboeuf said: “I think he sank with his whole teammates [against Manchester City]. It doesn’t make me think he’s suddenly become bad. He’s a great defender. He’s still fantastic. You can have a bad day.

“We all know Gvardiol is a fantastic defender… I won’t change my mind after a game like that.”

According to The Times a couple of weeks ago, Chelsea do have an interest in signing Gvardiol ahead of next season.

The left-footed centre-back has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent times, and he’s still on the Blues radar.

Everyone should be able to look past last night’s result when rating Gvardiol, who possesses you can want in a modern centre-half. He’s got excellent pace, power, and passing ability.

You could easily picture him slotting into a Chelsea line-up on the left of a back three, but the problem is we currently have Marc Cucurella and Benoit Badiashile fighting it out for that position.
