Frank Leboeuf has delivered his verdict on Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca and what his future looks like at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca made a big step up in the summer when he left Leicester City to become the Chelsea manager, which is by far the biggest role in his brief coaching career so far.
Even though the Italian boss started well in the first half of the season, his side has been a lot more inconsistent in 2025. Therefore, Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and risk missing out on Champions League qualification if they don’t finish strongly in their final five top-flight fixtures.
Gabriel Agbonlahor’s assessment of Chelsea is that he doesn’t blame the section of supporters that are voicing their frustration towards Maresca, suggesting that they’ve become a boring team to watch under him.

Frank Leboeuf predicts Enzo Maresca will get more time at Chelsea
Frank Leboeuf, the ESPN pundit and former Blues defender, thinks that Maresca is still secure in his job right now amid criticism from the fanbase. However, he admits that the players are putting in inconsistent displays under him right now.
When asked how safe Maresca’s job is at Chelsea, Leboeuf told ESPN: “I don’t feel he’s at risk right now with the club because I think the club will have to settle down and say, ‘For once, we’re going to give someone a chance to carry on and to see if they can get better’. I’m concerned because we can see the inconsistency that the players are showing week in, week out.
“If they have a catastrophic end of the season that might be the end of Enzo Maresca, but I do believe that they’re going to give him a chance.”
It’s been reported that Chelsea aren’t planning to replace Maresca at this current stage because he’s a big part of the club’s project moving forward. In fairness, he did pen a five-year contract when he joined last summer.
Even though Maresca is admired by other teams, he’s expected to take the Blues forward into the Club World Cup tournament this summer, followed by a second season with them.
It’s worth remembering that Maresca is still very much a young coach learning on the job under huge pressure.

What Enzo Maresca said about Chelsea’s squad when he joined the club
When Maresca first arrived through the Chelsea doors, he was extremely optimistic about the group he was inheriting.
Back in July 2024, Maresca praised the Chelsea squad by claiming it’s got plenty of potential and quality. The Blues head coach said: “One of the reasons why I’m here is because I’m convinced that the squad is very good. As you said, it’s full of talent. So the most important thing now is that we are able to create the right culture that drives us through the season.”
Midway through the season, Maresca was still happy with Chelsea’s group of players. It’s unfortunate that key players such as Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer have lost a bit of form in 2025, though.
We, like a lot of supporters, still feel like the squad is lacking in the experience department.
The question is, should Maresca be getting more out of these players right now?
