Frank Leboeuf believes the next Chelsea manager would face an “unbearable” situation once they take over at Stamford Bridge.
Recent reports suggest that Mauricio Pochettino is the leading candidate for the Chelsea job after the club cut their shortlist down to three options.
At this point, it is likely that caretaker manager Frank Lampard will be in charge of the team until the end of the season before a permanent manager takes his spot ahead of the new season.
However, ideally, Chelsea will make their decision in the next few weeks, which will then allow the new manager to have an early input on the club’s summer plans.
Lebeouf pointed out that whoever Chelsea choose will face an uphill battle from day one.
He admitted that while he likes both Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann, he has reservations about how any of these two would cope at Chelsea.

“How [the next Chelsea manager] can handle the situation that seems to be unbearable at the moment?” the former France international told ESPN FC.
“With all the talents that you can have, how do you deal with [30+ players] that Thiago Silva talked about?
“How do you sell the players on high wages, and how do you choose the ones you want to keep on top of possibly signing two or three players?”
In fairness, the next manager will not be solely responsible for these problems.
Chelsea established a new sporting department, which includes co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, earlier this year, and they should have already had plans for the squad.
However, if the club fail to trim their squad, for example, due to their wages as Leboeuf pointed out, the next manager will have to deal with the consequences, too.
In addition to that, there are questions about the players who arrived at Chelsea last summer and in January.
Thomas Tuchel was at the helm at the start of the season, while the January signings joined the club under Graham Potter.
There is no guarantee that they would fit into the next manager’s plans.
