Jamie Carragher has claimed in his column for The Telegraph that England midfielder Jude Bellingham has all the makings of a perfect midfielder.
The 19-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, with him set to be very highly sought after next summer.
Bellingham continued with that has been a sensational World Cup campaign so far with another display last night.
An assist combined with an all-round dominant midfield performance helped England advance to the Quarter Finals of the World Cup.
It was the fourth consecutive start at this tournament, with him being one of the few players Gareth Southgate has trusted from the off in every game so far.
Carragher praises Bellingham
His faith was repaid again last night, as the Three Lions have set up a showcase match with France in the next round.
Carragher has had plenty of praise for Bellingham. He believes his attributes are those of the perfect midfielder.
He said: “We are watching the career of a freakishly good talent unfolding. It is frightening how good Bellingham is. If you were to build the prototype modern midfielder, he would be it. He has the physique and athleticism of a 27-year-old Gerrard, and has all the attributes you want in a footballer – tackling, passing, assisting and scoring.”
The 19-year-old will be the subject of a frenzy next summer. All of Europe’s elite sides will be interested in securing a deal.
It had originally been believed that Liverpool and Real Madrid were ahead in the race to sign Bellingham. However, Todd Boehly has reportedly been working hard to put Chelsea in the race.
With the potential exodus involving N’golo Kante and Jorginho, only a world-class replacement will keep Chelsea competing at the highest level. Bellingham is certainly that quality of player.
