Gabby Agbonlahor says 24-year-old has been so poor since Chelsea sold him this summer

Gabby Agbonlahor has ripped into Manchester United’s Mason Mount for his performances since Chelsea sold him this summer.

Mason Mount, who’s been the poster boy at Chelsea in recent years, completed a surprise exit from Stamford Bridge before the start of the season.

Man United splashed out £55million (Sky Sports) to bring the 24-year-old attacking midfielder to Old Trafford, but it’s been a fairly muted start so far.

In fairness, the Englishman’s only made six appearances this campaign due to an injury absence, scoring zero goals and contributing one assist.

Mason Mount still in first gear

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Mount’s been so poor so far in Man United colours.

“Mason Mount is up there [for worst Premier League signing], he’s not done anything, has he?” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

Chelsea may have no regrets

Mount’s exit in the summer didn’t go down too well with a portion of the Chelsea fanbase.

Firstly, the Blues academy graduate is a homegrown talent who loved the club. In addition, the playmaker’s been one of the standout individuals in the squad during the past few years, including in the side that famously won the Champions League.

However, £50million-plus of pure profit may be a deal that the club’s hierarchy reflects on now as a good deal. We’ll see a bit further down the line what his sale looks like, though.

Well-respected journalist Ben Jacobs recently told GiveMeSport that Man United became Mount’s only real option once Chelsea made their minds up to sell him in the summer.

Our focus is on what happens with this current Chelsea squad under head coach Mauricio Pochettino. For what it’s worth, we do expect Mount to thrive in Manchester once he gets a run of starts and settles in his new home.

He’s proven in 195 Blues appearances that he’s a top quality operator. There’s a Euro 2024 tournament just around the corner and he needs to find form if he wants a spot on the plane with England, too.

For Chelsea, it does look like they’ve added well to their forward line with the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City. Also, the Blues still have Christopher Nkunku to throw into the mix once he’s fully fit again after his injury absence so far this campaign.
