Gabby Agbonlahor is pretty shocked to hear the current transfer rumours that Arsenal are chasing a deal to sign Chelsea’s Kai Havertz this summer.

Kai Havertz, 24, is a hot topic for discussion right now in the media. In particular, the German’s name is popping up frequently alongside Arsenal.

The Daily Mail has claimed this week that Arsenal are currently in talks with Chelsea over a £60million deal for Havertz. They add that the Blues are currently asking for £70million before selling him, though.

It was a surprise to many when the Gunners signed Jorginho back in the January window. They are now looking to repeat that trick this summer with another Chelsea star.

TalkSPORT pundit Agbonlahor is confused by the speculation linking Arsenal to Havertz, who’s not the kind of clinical forward they are searching for.

“You know what, with [Kai] Havertz, he’s frustrating to watch as you can tell there’s a player in there,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT (8:13am, 15 June).

“Last season, seven goals in 35 games, and there must be part of [Mauricio] Pochettino that’s thinking if I can £50m-£60m for him, I’ve got my eye on someone else who’s more clinical.

“I don’t understand from an Arsenal point of view. Arsenal need a clinical striker.

“Gabriel Jesus missed a lot of chances last season, [Eddie] Nketiah did as well. I don’t think he suits Arsenal.”

In our view, Havertz has got the kind of football brain and individual talent that would see him do well in Arsenal colours.

But we don’t ever see the Germany international being someone who regularly hits 20-plus goals a season.

We see the best of the 24-year-old attacker when he’s dropping into pockets of space and getting on the ball. In contrast, he’s frustrated Chelsea fans during his time in the centre-forward position because of his lack of finishing.
