England manager Gareth Southgate has claimed in his press conference that the young centre-backs hoping to be in the World Cup squad did not do enough to replace the older members.
Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah was one of the outsiders doing his best to force himself on the plane to Qatar.
The likes of Harry Maguire, Conor Coady and Eric Dier all made the squad, with them all being able to boast a broad amount of experience representing their country.

This of course came at the expense of some of the younger options, who have no doubt been impressing over the last 18 months.
Marc Guehi has been made Crystal Palace captain since moving on from Chelsea, while Fikayo Tomori has become a Serie A champion with AC Milan.
However, neither were given the final call-up by Southgate, with them both left at home alongside Chalobah.
Southgate explains Chalobah omission
Southgate has now claimed that he doesn’t believe they did quite enough to break into the setup, with him still showing his support for Manchester United’s Maguire.
He said: “We don’t think the young ones have done quite enough to push the older ones out.
“I’m sure Harry Maguire is one of our best centre backs”.

Chalobah will not be given the opportunity to join up with Chelsea teammates Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher, after the midfielder was the surprise inclusion to the side.
Former England manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that he is for bringing the Chelsea man, saying he offers something the rest of the midfielders do not.
Mount has made it clear how big representing his country in Qatar will be. He has already claimed he will bury his shirt if the Three Lions bring it home this winter.
Chalobah will look now to continue to impress Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge over the break, in an attempt to keep up his streak of starts for the club.
