Gary Cahill left amazed at what ‘strong’ Chelsea player did in victory over Bournemouth

Chelsea left it late to secure their second win of the Premier League season at the weekend against Bournemouth.

The Blues picked up a 1-0 win on the South Coast, keeping up their 100% record away from home in the league under Enzo Maresca.

The Italian was forced to make some serious changes to his side, with no fit right-back being available for selection.

Axel Disasi filled the void on Saturday night, however was not impressive and was replaced early in the second half.

It was the substitutes who made the difference in the end, with Christopher Nkunku coming off the bench to score the only goal.

Cahill amazed at Christopher Nkunku’s turn and goal

He combined well with Jadon Sancho late on, however it was what he did between picking up the ball and finding the net that was really impressive.

Former Blue Gary Cahill has stated that he couldn’t believe the Frenchman was able to work the ball into a position to finish the chance.

He told the Premier League’s official website: “We spoke about Sancho, his impact in the second half, great ball in, and I think Nkunku, I am not sure how much he knew about the turn, to be honest.

“It’s almost like his momentum and determination got him on the end of that, used his body very well, very strong, yeah, and got the decisive goal. But again, Sancho, positive, wasn’t he? He was really positive in the second half.”

Enzo Maresca has to start Nkunku for Chelsea

It feels unlikely that Maresca will be able to keep Nkunku on the bench for much longer, with him being arguably the best finisher Chelsea have at the club.

The boss has a number of options for where he can play the Frenchman. He has previously impressed both up front and behind the striker.

The number 10 position is currently held by Cole Palmer, with it looking unlikely that he will be displaced.

However, last season’s Player of the Year is more than capable of operating off the right, potentially freeing up a role for Nkunku.
