Things are looking up at last for Chelsea, with there being real optimism around the team for the first time really in over two years.

Enzo Maresca has led the Blues to the top four of the table as we enter the second international break of the season.

A number of individuals have really stepped up their game, with Cole Palmer somehow hitting a new level again this season.

Maresca has remained loyal to his starting squad in the Premier League, and this has seen a number of players feature in every single game they have been fit for.

This is the case for Moises Caicedo, who has seen what he said as his dreams come true by captaining the side at a a point this season too.

Gary Cahill’s Moises Caicedo prediction coming true

If any player embodies showing real improvement since Maresca came in, then that is certainly the Ecuador international.

The midfielder was doubt playing with real pressure on his shoulders last season after arriving as the most expensive transfer in British history.

However, one person who predicted this turnaround in form back in February was Gary Cahill, who backed both him and Enzo Fernandez to drastically improve.

He said: “I think the midfield partnership between Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo is only going to get better and better the more they play with each other.

“Everything is easier when things are going well for the team and this is a tough time. Enzo is an experienced player so there will be lots of players in that dressing room looking to him to get them through this tough moment.

“For Caicedo, it will be a matter of progressing and getting back to the levels that we have seen from him previously. I still think he is adapting at the club and I can speak from experience because I moved to Chelsea from a smaller club in Bolton.

“In some ways it is easier because you’re surrounded by better players, but it is also harder because of the pressure and the flack that you get when you’re not getting results. He’s still adapting to the club as a whole after moving from a club like Brighton.”

Jury still out on Enzo Fernandez

The jury is still out on whether Fernandez has made the appropriate improvements to guarantee himself a place in the starting side going forwards.

There is certainly an argument that he could be in for a spell on the bench, especially with promising talent Romeo Lavia returning to full fitness recently.

Caicedo meanwhile remains a crucial name on the teamsheet for Maresca, and has already been tipped for bigger things in the future.

John Obi Mikel has predicted he should be the captain permanently going forwards, and has been full of praise for his performances this season.
