Gary Lineker shares four-word joke as Mauricio Pochettino finally begins work at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino caused quite the stir amongst Tottenham fans on his first day of work at Chelsea.

The Argentine – who achieved hero status at Spurs after guiding the north Londoners to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019 – irked those in N17 after calling Chelsea the greatest club in England across the past 15 years in his first interview.

In that interview, Gary Lineker spotted something on Mauricio Pochettino which led to the BBC Match of the Day host cracking a four-word joke.

What’s the story?

Well, the 62-year-old jokingly asked why the South American was handcuffed during his first interview with Chelsea.

You can see what Lineker wrote on Twitter in full in the tweet below.

Pochettino’s bracelet was dangling, making it look as if the Blues had tied the 51-year-old down on his first day of work at Cobham.

While we can confirm that the Argentine was not genuinely handcuffed by Chelsea, we have a feeling the Blues may need to tie him down later on in the 2023/24 campaign to keep him away from rival clubs – a manager of this pedigree, with such exceptional talent at his disposal, will surely be a success at Stamford Bridge.

If that does turn out to be the case, then it will irritate Tottenham fans even more – especially as many wanted to see Daniel Levy bring Pochettino back.

Towards the end of last season, Spurs fans could be heard singing Pochettino’s song at almost every home game, as well as the occasional away fixture.

Pochettino can become a Chelsea legend

In our view, Pochettino has all the tools required to become a legend at Chelsea.

He is a fiery presence on the touchline – something the Stamford Bridge faithful love to see in their managers.

Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel were huge successes in west London, with all three of them showing a passionate approach on the sideline which fans adored.

Pochettino is also a hugely talented coach when it comes to developing young prospects, so he should be able to work wonders with gems like Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, Reece James and others.

It should also be noted that Pochettino can work with established superstars too, having formed a strong bond with Neymar at PSG – as seen in his interview with the Guardian.

Therefore, the Argentine shouldn’t have many issues when it comes to man management at Stamford Bridge, where his exciting tactical approach could lead Chelsea back to silverware.
