Gary Neville has made his prediction for this weekend’s huge match between Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Liverpool host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon at Anfield as club football returns with a bang after the international break.

Enzo Maresca has made an impressive start as the Blues manager to quickly silence any doubters that questioned his appointment in the summer. As it stands, the team sit fourth in the Premier League after seven games and they’re very entertaining to watch.

During a recent interview with Stadium Astro, Maresca insisted Chelsea will try to play their football at Liverpool.

Gary Neville predicts Liverpool against Chelsea

Gary Neville has predicted that Liverpool will be too strong for Chelsea at home, so he’s tipped a 3-1 victory for the Reds.

Neville told The Overlap: “I think Liverpool will beat them because I think Chelsea, they are a bit younger. Liverpool 3-1. I think it will be a big atmosphere that day, I think Chelsea will just… I think Liverpool can be a humbling place when you go there as a team for the first time. It’s the first time this team has gone there properly.”

A big test for the Chelsea defence

In any usual circumstance, Chelsea’s trip to Liverpool would represent a very difficult challenge for the Blues defence. This obstacle may be even harder now given the fact that two of their senior defenders are missing.

Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella are both unavailable this weekend due to suspension. As a result, Maresca will be forced into changing half of the back four.

We’d guess that Tosin Adarabioyo and Renato Veiga are the likely individuals to come into the starting line-up as like-for-like replacements.

There’s question marks around the Chelsea defence after conceding eight goals in seven league games this campaign, with oppositions teams finding it too easy at times to play through them. It’s going to take a very disciplined performance to keep Liverpool quiet in their own backyard.
