Gary Neville has already made an interesting observation about Mauricio Pochettino after the former Chelsea boss was named the United States manager.

Mauricio Pochettino, who spent just one year at Stamford Bridge, left Chelsea in the summer by mutual consent.

It was definitely a turbulent year with lots of ups and down, but ultimately the Blues finished sixth in the Premier League and lost the League Cup final to Liverpool.

Pochettino hasn’t waited long to dive straight back into management, this time taking on the first international role of his career. The Argentine coach was officially named the United States manager earlier in September.

United States fans were delighted when Pochettino was appointed their manager, with the attention now turning towards the 2026 World Cup that they’re co-hosting.

Gary Neville spots immediate difference in Mauricio Pochettino

Gary Nevile has spotted that Pochettino already looks a lot happier in interviews as the United States boss compared to last year at Chelsea, where the pressure and spotlight is so severe under this ownership.

When discussing Pochettino’s appointment as the United States manager, Neville told ‘It’s Called Soccer!’: “You see the way he’s been treated and obviously what’s happened at Chelsea it’s very challenging there. Maybe he just wants a job where he knows he can come over and for two years really concentrate on something.

“The positivity in that [United States] press conference was incredible. He just looked completely relaxed. Sometimes you saw at the end at Chelsea, you’re watching someone you like and you know, you’re thinking the fit of the current Chelsea with him wasn’t right. Actually, whereas the U.S. journalists and people in the press conference were so happy.”

Mauricio Pochettino a coup for United States

While Pochettino didn’t set the world alight at Chelsea, there’s no doubting that he’s a high-profile manager with so much quality. He actually won the last five consecutive league matches of last season, so the Blues were certainly building something before his departure.

When you look at Pochettino’s CV, the fact that the United States have convinced him to join them is very impressive.

We’re confident that the former Chelsea boss will achieve great things with the US. In the meantime, Enzo Maresca stepped in as Pochettino’s successor in west London and is now leading the project.
