Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola had the privilege to play alongside some great players in his career.
Of course, Gianfranco Zola was a great player himself. And after representing Chelsea, Napoli, Parma and the Italy national team, he got to share the pitch with footballers of his ability.
The above includes the late Diego Maradona, a football legend whose ability even exceeded Zola’s.
He was included in Zola’s XI of the best players he has ever played with, while four Chelsea legends also managed to make the cut.

John Terry, Frank Lampard, Dennis Wise and Roberto Di Matteo all make Gianfranco Zola’s XI
Zola had a Chelsea-themed midfield for his best teammates XI, selecting Frank Lampard, Dennis Wise and Roberto Di Matteo — that is some engine room.
At the back, John Terry represented the Blues, while Zola’s former teammates from Parma and Italy made up the rest of the defence.
It is a defence that contained both Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini, showing that Zola really did get to play alongside football royalty during his career.
Today, there is probably not a team that would be able to compete against the above.

Gianfranco Zola on Chelsea’s current XI
Zola was speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, which saw Chelsea beat West Ham United.
Going into the game, Enzo Maresca made a big decision, deciding to drop Robert Sanchez for Filip Jorgensen.
It comes after Sanchez’s huge error at the Etihad, where Chelsea lost 3-1 to Manchester City.
The decision to replace Sanchez with Jorgensen was one that Zola backed. Zola praised Maresca’s boldness, saying: “He has been brave changing the goalkeeper. I think Maresca is making the decisions that need to be made. Things are going in the right direction. You can’t always play perfect football.”
In the end, it proved to be the right call. Jorgensen did not do too much wrong against West Ham, helping Chelsea to claim a vital three points.
That win has seen them return to the top four, keeping their Champions League dreams alive this season. Jorgensen is no Gianluigi Buffon, another one of Zola’s ex-teammates, but he got the job done on Monday.
