When you list the most technical players to ever represent Chelsea, Gianfranco Zola and Cole Palmer would arguably be in the conversation for everyone.

Gianfranco Zola, who retired as a player nearly two decades ago, is rightly considered a Chelsea legend. The Italian attacker was magical during a seven-year spell at Stamford Bridge between 1996-2003, winning six trophies in total.

Incidentally, Peter Crouch recently described Chelsea great Zola as “underrated” and thinks he should be spoken about as one of the Premier League’s best ever players.

As for Cole Palmer, who’s only in his second season with the Blues, he’s already starting to create quite a legacy of his own in west London. In 58 Chelsea appearances, the left-footed attacker has 32 goals and 20 assists to go with some dazzling performances.

Cole Palmer promises to take Gianfranco Zola for dinner if he scores another free-kick

Chelsea and England star Palmer, 22, has scored a variety of different goals already in a career that is rapidly on the rise. In terms of the most spectacular strike, he netted a long-range free-kick against Brighton in the Premier League earlier this season.

During an interview on the Premier League’s official X account, Palmer pointed towards Zola when asked which of the two of them is the better free-kick taker.

Zola answered: “Just me.”

Palmer responded: “Mine was luck.”

Afterwards, Zola added: “No, there is no luck. It’s ability, but he needs to practice a little bit more. He promised me that he’s going to. He told me that he’s going to take me for dinner if he scores. Next goal he scores after practicing.”

The Chelsea fanbase will surely love hearing about Palmer’s promise to Zola to practice his set-pieces and to take him out for dinner after he scores his next free-kick.

Palmer already looks like the complete player with his special talent. But at the age of 22, the playmaker has time on his side to make further improvements and to perform for a long time on the biggest stage.

Shay Given named Chelsea’s Palmer as the Premier League’s best this season, but there’s definitely still more gears that the special talent can go through.

Cole Palmer already a penalty specialist

If Palmer can add free-kick specialist to his long list of skills, it’s going to make him even tougher for opponents to face.

The composed attacker has proven he’s exceptional from 12 yards. Here is a look at Palmer’s penalty record so far as a Chelsea player.

The Englishman is becoming a household name because of his incredible success with the Blues since he arrived from Manchester City. In fact, even Olympic legend Usain Bolt has praised “incredible” Chelsea star Palmer.
