Glenn Hoddle singled out one Chelsea player for special praise after his individual performance in Sunday’s eye-catching victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Enzo Maresca picked up his first Premier League win as Chelsea head coach, watching his side put on an attacking clinic at Molineux Stadium this weekend.

The Blues lost their league opener last weekend against reigning champions Manchester City, but they responded this afternoon by thrashing Wolves 6-2 at their own ground.

Noni Madueke will get the headlines for his excellent hat-trick. Speaking via Football London recently, Maresca insisted he wants Madueke to stay at Chelsea, which is a thought that should be echoed by everybody at the club.

Glenn Hoddle amazed by Cole Palmer

Despite the brilliance of Madueke at Wolves, Glenn Hoddle picked out Chelsea’s Cole Palmer as the standout player on the pitch.

The 22-year-old playmaker, who operated in a No.10 position, made a serious impact on the match to earn big praise.

Hoddle said via the Premier League’s website (4:10pm, 25 August): “It was a day for no defences really, they were poor in the first half Chelsea and Wolves were poor throughout. It was a wonderful game, great goals and Palmer was different class to anyone else. Maresca wanted a win but a performance as well.”

Cole Palmer up and running

Some people may have questioned if last year was a one-off season for Palmer, but today’s evidence suggests that he’s ready to take the league by storm once again.

The left-footed attacker netted his first goal of the campaign in the opening 45 minutes, and it’ll be hard to score a better one all year. He showed his skill and composure to finish with a superb chip over the goalkeeper.

Afterwards, his second-half display was all about his creativity and relationship with one teammate. It’s incredible that Palmer assisted all three of Madueke’s goals with passes into his path.

When Maresca looks back and reflects on the Wolves win, Palmer’s success in the No.10 role should give him a clear sign of where to use him this season.
