Chelsea’s plethora of loanees are certainly enduring a mixed time of things as they look to prove they still have a future with their parent club.

Andrey Santos was recently named in the U21 Team of the Season, as he continues his excellent run of form at Strasbourg.

Santos said he believed he could play a role under Enzo Maresca, and it feels as if it won’t be long until he is playing a part at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian is arguably the standout loanee of the campaign, however there are a number of other figures who have enjoyed promising showings too.

Chelsea loanee Gabriel Slonina suffers finger injury

One of those is Gabriel Slonina, who was one of the first players signed after new owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over the club.

He has been featuring in League One for Barnsley, establishing himself as the number one there this season.

However, his time between the sticks is set for a lengthy break, with the Chelsea website confirming he has suffered a finger injury that will keep him out for six weeks

There is still a lot of promise regarding the career of Slonina, who has already broken through into the United States setup at the age of just 20.

Chelsea excited about future of Mike Penders

Fellow countryman Matt Turner has described Slonina as ‘great’, and he will be hoping he still has a future at Stamford Bridge.

There will be plenty of competition in the future for the number one shirt at Chelsea, with Robert Sanchez seeming unlikely to keep it for too much longer.

The Blues signed Mike Penders over the summer, with him impressing greatly in the Belgian Pro League already.

Penders has been compared to Thibaut Courtois, and there is a lot of hope that he can live up to the levels set already by his countryman in the future.
