‘Have to be really honest’… Mauricio Pochettino shares what he’s ‘upset’ about at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has given a really honest assessment on his side’s season so far.

Chelsea were able to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday after beating Newcastle United on penalties but find themselves 10th in the Premier League.

Outside of the League Cup, then, it has been a very poor campaign for the club and Mauricio Pochettino has now spoken to Sky Sports about it.

There have been a few good moments, though, with the Blues managing to beat their fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 before playing out an exciting 4-4 draw with Premier League champions Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino upset about Chelsea’s season

Pochettino has made it clear that he is not happy with Chelsea’s league position, though he is confident that things will get better.

The Argentine said: “We wanted today to be in a different position on the table, of course, I cannot say false. I have to be really honest and say I am upset – not frustrated because we knew this was going to be tough, but the circumstances have not been kind.

“Injuries make us to be a little bit delayed, and not progress in the way we wanted to, that is why we are late in our way to achieve things. I have no doubt we are going to be late, but we are going to perform and win games, and be in the position we deserve to be.”

Mauricio Pochettino right to be upset

It obviously has not been a great season for Chelsea. The Blues have not been good enough and it is quite embarrassing that they are in mid-table again, especially after all of the money that has been spent.

It is only normal for Pochettino to feel disappointed, though you do have to acknowledge all of the injuries his team have picked up, as he highlighted.

The former Tottenham boss is without three of his full-backs, for example, Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella. Cucurella is set to be out until February, while James is going to be on the sidelines for a while after picking up another bad hamstring injury.
