‘He cannot help’… John Obi Mikel questions why Chelsea signed £30m player this summer

There have not been many more vocal in opposition to the current situation at Chelsea than John Obi Mikel.

The former midfielder has made his feeling clear on the Blues in recent weeks or months, with him not convinced what is going on is good enough.

Mikel was particularly scathing over Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, saying they are nowhere near good enough to play for the club.

He has been a big advocate of the club strengthening their attack with the addition of Victor Osimhen. The club are reportedly still assessing whether they believe they can pull a deal off for the striker.

As far as signings already made this summer go, none of them were handed a start yesterday, although Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was brought off the bench to try and make an impact late on.

Mikel has no idea why Chelsea signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Mikel has shared that he is not really so sure why the club brought the midfielder in this summer, with him not improving the side in his opinion.

He told beIN SPORTS: “If you look at the players signed when I was there, key players that were coming in. Players like Deco, Michael Ballack, Shevchenko, Fernando Torres, Florent Malouda. These are big, big players who came to help us improve the team.

“When I look at this team, Dewsbury-Hall. Again, I have nothing against this player, it’s not his fault, it was the club who brought him to the club, he cannot help Chelsea.”

Dewsbury-Hall should replace Enzo Fernandez

There is certainly an argument for Dewsbury-Hall to start the next game for the Blues, especially after the imbalanced look the Chelsea midfield had against Manchester City.

Enzo Fernandez in particular seemed to struggle with what was being asked of him, with his role looking as if it was to link the midfield and attack together.

The introduction of the former Leicester City man could help get the best out of Cole Palmer, who had a quiet opening outing in the Premier League.
