Chelsea have been without Champions League football at Stamford Bridge for a number of seasons now, and are under pressure to deliver it for the upcoming campaign.

Enzo Maresca’s side have fallen out of the top four just weeks after many considered them title contenders, and a dire run of form isn’t showing any signs of stopping at the moment.

The manager needs reinforcements in the January transfer window, however with just a few days left they have so far only recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace.

The summer signings made by the club have not had the impact they will have desired so far, with one of them already leaving in the case of Renato Veiga.

Omari Kellyman left Champions League football at Villa for no appearances for Chelsea

One player the Blues signed in the last transfer window was Omari Kellyman, brought in for a hefty fee from Aston Villa in a deal that also saw Ian Maatsen go the other way.

At this time, the teenager is yet to feature in a first-team squad for the Blues, and will no doubt be looking back at his former side and the successes they are having with envy.

Villa last night confirmed their place in the Round of 16 of the Champions League after finishing in the top eight of the table, meaning big knockout European nights are on their way back to Villa Park.

It was claimed that Kellyman could be leaving on loan this month, with him no doubt desperate for minutes at this stage.

However, it has now been decided it is best he stays at Cobham in order to recover properly from his recent injuries.

He has just two appearances in Premier League 2 for the Under 21s this season and has spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.
