There’s still every chance that Mykhailo Mudryk could come good in a Chelsea shirt.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy.

Mykhailo Mudryk, who joined the club in January of last year, is now 14 months into a Chelsea career that is still yet to really ignite.

The 23-year-old winger may have cost a lot to sign from Shakhtar Donetsk, but he’s still struggling to nail down a permanent spot in the starting XI at Stamford Bridge.

His return of six goals and five assists in 46 Blues appearances since arriving in west London is underwhelming for someone with his potential and talent.

Danny Murphy was full of praise for Mudryk after he came off the bench on Monday night to score in Chelsea’s league win at home to Newcastle United.

He now suggests that the £100,000-a-week attacker (Spotrac) may have a springboard to kick on as a Blues player.

“He’s been through a hell of a journey the lad coming into this place for huge money with high expectation. He’s struggled let’s be honest. But that little cameo [against Newcastle] shows you what he’s about,” Murphy told talkSPORT (9:59pm, 11 March).

“I think some fans thought somebody had tricked them, but he has got ability. We saw it the first time he got on the pitch for them at Anfield and that there we saw all his attributes. The quick feet, the amazing pace, and even that little bit of composure for the goal we haven’t seen that.

“That could be a brilliant springboard for him. I know it’s too little too late this season, but we’re talking the next three of four years with him.”

Mykhailo Mudryk to come good at Chelsea

The way Mudryk expertly took his goal against Newcastle this week highlighted his individual brilliance, but can he piece his game together to find any consistency?

We’re looking at a very raw forward that only shows in snippets what he’s capable of on the ball.

Our hope is that Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino puts some extra faith in him by giving him a run of starts, where he’ll sink or swim as a player.

The Evening Standard recently claimed that Pochettino has got Mudryk out of his shell and helped him to develop relationships inside the Chelsea dressing room. Hopefully, we’re about to see the benefit of that on the pitch.
