‘He needs to learn’: Mauricio Pochettino now keen to see if £32m Chelsea player will take his advice

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has warned Nicolas Jackson that he needs to learn from his mistakes.

Nicolas Jackson picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa last Sunday and Mauricio Pochettino has now urged the £32m striker to take a lesson from it and listen to any advice given to him.

“We talk every day with him,” the Argentine told football.london and other outlets. “But football is football. When you play football with your friends, maybe you are thinking about something and when you start to play you forget. Or maybe we are under stress. But it is about learning.

“He needs to learn not only in this but in other areas. We are going to see if he is clever enough to adapt and accept advice, and also to learn from mistakes.”

It has been a difficult start to life in the Premier League for Jackson. As well as picking up five yellow cards, he has managed to score just one goal in six top-flight appearances.

He will now be absent for Chelsea’s west London derby against Fulham on Monday.

Nicolas Jackson will learn

Jackson is still just 22 years of age. He is a young and inexperienced footballer who has probably been frustrated with his lack of goals.

His ban is probably something he will learn from and if the goals start to flow, he is likely to be more happier on the pitch and less prone to doing silly things worthy of a yellow.

The question is, though, will the goals start to flow? Pochettino will be hoping so.

The Blues have not scored enough times this season, finding the back of the net on just five occasions in the Premier League so far.

They have to do better to have any chance of finishing in the top four and hopefully Jackson can help them to when he returns from suspension. If not, then perhaps someone else in January will.
