Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel is confident that Moises Caicedo will get better at Stamford Bridge.
Moises Caicedo has made a slow start in west London following his big-money move from Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer, with his manager Mauricio Pochettino admitting that they have spoken about his form.
But John Obi Mikel, speaking to CNN, has backed the midfielder to turn things around.
Chelsea smashed their transfer record to sign Caicedo, paying Brighton £115m (Sky Sports) for his signature.
John Obi Mikel confident Moises Caicedo will come good at Chelsea
Mikel has admitted that Caicedo has struggled during this early stage of his Chelsea career, but the Blues legend believes he will eventually reach a high level in west London.
Discussing the 22-year-old in an interview with CNN, he said: “We all know he didn’t start really well. First few games, he struggled quite a lot. We thought [N’Golo] Kante had two lungs, but everybody said that Caicedo has three lungs, he can run even more than Kante. So we want to see that, we want to see that.
“Has he started putting in those performances yet? I don’t think so. Will he get there? I think he will get there. I think he played really well the last couple of games against Spurs and City. It comes with a huge pressure. It definitely comes with a huge pressure if you’ve been bought for over one hundred million. So I think he’ll get there. He’s a fantastic player.”

Will Moises Caicedo come good at Chelsea?
It is surely only a matter of time before Caicedo starts making a real impact at Stamford Bridge.
We do not think he has been too influential in a Chelsea shirt yet, but the Ecuadorian has just joined the club and needs time. He did not even have a pre-season with his new team-mates. Overall, Caicedo is a quality player.
Last season, for example, the former Brighton man made 100 tackles in the Premier League. Only Fulham’s Joao Palhinha (147) made more (FBref).
It is quite clear to see, then, that Caicedo does have something to bring to the table. He probably just needs a bit more time to adapt. And with Chelsea as a whole not playing well, that has not exactly helped the Ecuador international either.
Still, with Caicedo having cost the Blues £115m, there is an expectation for him to deliver and soon. His critics are not going to wait around forever, while Pochettino is also not in a position where he can afford for him to keep playing at a mediocre level.
