Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says he has had a conversation with Moises Caicedo about his form.

Chelsea broke their transfer record in the summer to bring Moises Caicedo in from Brighton & Hove Albion, but the midfielder has not quite lived up to his £115m price tag (Sky Sports) yet.

And Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to the Evening Standard and other outlets ahead of Chelsea’s game against Caicedo’s old side tomorrow, revealed that he has talked to his player about his performances since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo was a key player for Brighton during his time at the Amex Stadium, with his former manager Roberto De Zerbi recently admitting that he is not happy with the 22-year-old’s departure.

Mauricio Pochettino and Moises Caicedo have spoken about his form

Pochettino had a chat with Caicedo about his form just before the Argentine’s recent pre-match press conference.

He told the Evening Standard and the rest of the English media: “Before this press conference, he was in my office for 20 minutes. It is easy because we speak Spanish. It is a subconscious process and that is a problem — only in time can you adapt.”

Pochettino also went on to add: “We had no pre-season with him. We talk about footballers; it is physical and mental, and there is the talent. If you want to express your talent, you need to be clear in your mind and be good in your legs; otherwise, it is not possible to move.”

Where will Moises Caicedo play against Brighton tomorrow?

With Reece James, Malo Gusto and Marc Cucurella all unavailable for Chelsea’s game against Brighton tomorrow, Pochettino has a decision to make.

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager can either start Caicedo at right-back or use Axel Disasi there.

Caicedo actually played in that position a few times at Brighton, while Disasi started there in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to west London rivals Brentford in October.

With neither player being a natural right-back, it is not a great situation Pochettino finds himself in. And it is obviously going to be hard for Caicedo to rediscover his best form if he is not playing in midfield.

It is why James’ red card against Newcastle United last weekend looks even more stupid now. But what’s done is done. Hopefully Caicedo or Disasi can step up to the plate when called upon tomorrow.
