Shaun Wright-Phillips has claimed on The Kelly and Wrighty show that Romelu Lukaku could stay at Chelsea if Joao Felix signs for the club permanently.

The Portugal international has hit the ground running since his move to Stamford Bridge, although he is yet to make his first appearance at his new home.

He opened his account for the club in the game against West Ham at the weekend, as he converted a sensational Enzo Fernandez pass early in the first half.

Despite the goal, he is not likely to be the answer to the club’s striker woes which still remain.

As Chelsea scramble for options around the world to fill the void, the question comes back around to whether things can work with Lukaku.

The Belgian is enduring an injury-hit loan spell at his former club, Inter Milan, on loan from the Blues.

Wright-Phillips has claimed that he may be more convinced to stay at the club if he has the opportunity to strike up a relationship with Felix.

He said: “I think when Lukaku comes back in the summer he will sit him down and have a conversation with him. I’m not saying he’ll fit back in but when you look at Lukaku when he did well at the Euros, De Bruyne just kept slotting him in and he kept going in behind.

“I think if Joao Felix stays he has that for the first time. He has people behind him who can put the ball exactly where he wants it. I’m not saying he’s that guy, but there’s an option there.”

There will be a desire amongst Chelsea fans for Felix to remain at the club beyond his loan spell if he continues with the quality he has shown so far. The same will perhaps not be an opinion amongst fans for Lukaku.
