Journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport that Todd Boehly would be interested in hiring Jurgen Klopp if the opportunity became available.

The German has enjoyed a sensational spell with Liverpool becoming a Premier League and European champion along the way.

However, this season has seen a downturn in form in a similar fashion to Chelsea.

The two sides have been trading places in the mid-table region of the Premier League, with both outfits pointing to injuries as a major factor for their poor showings.

Chelsea have been missing arguably their two best players, Reece James and N’golo Kante have been missing for more of the season than they have been present for.

The Frenchman in particular fell injured in just the second game of the season, with him yet to return in the middle of February.

Boehly would want Klopp

Injuries have seen some hesitant to point the finger at current Chelsea manager Graham Potter, despite the poor form that he has led the Blues to in the past few months.

However, Phillips has claimed the owner wouldn’t be opposed to the hiring of Klopp if he became available.

He said: “I think Klopp, if he did become available, he would appeal to Chelsea’s hierarchy just purely because of who he is, what he’s done and what he’s proven.

“Chelsea would probably have an eye on that.”

Despite what Phillips has had to say, reports have claimed that the current boss has the full backing of the owners after they brought him in to replace Thomas Tuchel.

There is plenty of hope that he can turn around the form with the help of the January signings made by the club, although even then there will be time allowed for things to gel.
