‘He’s completely lost’: ESPN pundit urges Mauricio Pochettino to help £32m Chelsea player

ESPN journalist Julien Laurens wants to see Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino offer Nicolas Jackson more help.

Nicolas Jackson failed to score in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford over the weekend and has struggled at Stamford Bridge overall since arriving from Villarreal in the summer.

The striker has scored just two goals in nine Premier League games, but Laurens, speaking on The Gab & Juls Show, thinks Mauricio Pochettino has to do a bit more to get more out of his player.

Jackson will have a good opportunity to get back to scoring ways when Chelsea take on Blackburn Rovers at home in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to help Nicolas Jackson

Laurens does not think Pochettino is doing enough with Jackson right now.

Discussing the 22-year-old’s struggles on The Gab & Juls Show, the journalist said: “That’s not his position. He was never a centre-forward anyway. But now that you want to play him there, please, work on his movement. Help him out because right now he’s completely lost.”

Mauricio Pochettino should consider taking Nicolas Jackson out of the firing line

At some point, if Jackson continues to misfire, Pochettino may have to take him out of the team and just shield him for a bit.

The Senegal international, who cost Chelsea £32m in the summer (The Guardian), is still quite young. It is not fair that he is having to shoulder so much responsibility and then deal with all of this criticism.

It is taking a toll on him, with Pochettino claiming that words from one Chelsea supporter in the team’s recent west London derby started to impact his game.

Jackson never had the experience to be a starter at a huge club like Chelsea where there is so much pressure to perform.

Pochettino should have pushed for another centre-forward to have been brought in alongside him and the club should have then signed off on it.

You can blame Jackson for missing chances, but Pochettino and his bosses are the ones responsible for putting the former Villarreal man in this position in the first place.
