Lewis Dunk admits he’s hugely impressed by the recent development of Chelsea’s Levi Colwill.
Levi Colwill, who’s still only 20, has gone straight into Chelsea’s first team this season after a successful spell out on loan at Brighton last year.
The young defender’s rise resulted in him making his senior England debut on Friday night in a 1-0 win against Australia.
He started at left-back last night in an England backline which also included Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk, so there was a familiar face helping him at Wembley Stadium.

Dunk, 31, is already very aware of Colwill’s quality after playing alongside him at Brighton in the 2022/23 season.
It’s interesting to highlight he’s already noticed Chelsea’s versatile youngster take huge steps forward in the space of a few months.
“He’s a top person, and I’ve seen him grow up last year. I tried to help him as much as I can, and he’s grown massively,” Dunk said, as quoted by The Evening Standard.
“Coming to the [England] camps now, he’s like a different person. He’s taken on the responsibility at Chelsea, and he’s put on a great performance. I’m sure that won’t be his last England appearance. Left-back, centre-back: he’s got it covered. He’s very versatile.”

Colwill is only going to keep getting better and better with more top-level exposure.
His long-term future will surely be as a ball-playing centre-half for club and county, but he’s showing this season his ability by covering at left-back for both.
Our guess is his versatility is going to give him a very good chance of being included in England’s squad at Euro 2024 next summer. Incidentally, the Three Lions can officially book their spot at the tournament next week when they face Italy in a qualifying match.
