Danny Murphy has claimed on TalkSPORT that Manchester United’s Casemiro is a much better player than Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea were pushed to the wire last night in negotiations with Benfica over a potential transfer, with them identifying the 22-year-old as their ideal midfielder.

They were keen to sign him off the back of a sensational World Cup campaign, where he picked up the award for the young player of the tournament.

With competition such as Jude Bellingham and Pedri for the award, It is certainly some achievement for one of Lionel Messi’s favourite teammates.

However, not everyone is so convinced of his abilities. Murphy has claimed that his abilities do not stack up to those of Casemiro or Manchester City’s Rodri.

He said: “I’ve watched him. I did three of their games. I watched him live, he’s decent. He’s not £100 million.

Murphy says Enzo Fernandez not as good as Casemiro

“You’re not £100 million. They have been bent over there. He’s a good midfielder. He’s tenacious, he’s brave, he’s young but he’s not Rodri, he’s not Casemiro. People are seeing them come and just taking their pants down basically.”

The Blues will certainly be looking for Fernandez to become a starter instantly, especially with Jorginho moving on from the club on deadline day.

The expectation was that the Italy international was expected to be on the move in the summer when his contract was set to end.

There were no signs that he was going to renew, so when Arsenal came in with a sizable offer for the midfielder they couldn’t turn it down.

This did result in Conor Gallagher staying with the club for at least the rest of the campaign.

The Blues received a £45m bid from Everton for his services late in the window, however they couldn’t warrant letting him go this month.
