'He's the guy': Chelsea told they have a 'special' player who Graham Potter has barely ever started
United States manager Gregg Berhalter has claimed to The Mirror that Chelsea have a player with ‘special quality’ in Christian Pulisic.
The forward will be an essential part of the US’ World Cup hopes as they look to cause a shock or two in Qatar.
They will be of great interest to England, with the two set to face each other in the second group stage match.
For Chelsea meanwhile, Pulisic has been an outcast since Graham Potter came in.
Starts in attack have actually seen him perform quite well, especially in comparison to other fleeting options.
Pulisic praised by Berhalter
Berhalter may be hoping he has an element of frustration in him when he features for the national team this month, with him saying he is always out to prove people wrong.
He said: “He’s the catalyst. he’s the guy who can jumpstart everything, can make everything happen because of his ability. It’s not to add pressure to him because without everyone else performing well, he’ll have no opportunity to do that. But that’s what I mean. He’s like the tip of the iceberg, he’s like that last bit, that really can put you over the top with his special quality.
“That’s his MO. His MO is that if he’s not counted on by a manager then he’s going to prove that manager wrong. He’s going to train as hard as he can, then when he gets on the field he’s going to fight for that jersey, fight for that club, he’s going to show that he should be and deserves to be on the field.
“That’s what I really admire about him. It’s the transformation. He doesn’t feel bad for himself, he doesn’t feel sorry for himself, he just goes and does his work. That’s his quality.”
Blues fans will be hoping to see more time in attack given to the American, with tonight’s League Cup match against Manchester City seeming a great opportunity.
