A new era is upon us at Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino arrives to replace Frank Lampard, just over a year after Todd Boehly took the reins from Roman Abramovich.
It remains to be seen how the Argentine and the American work together.
However – as captured on camera – one fan seems very optimistic, telling Todd Boehly that Chelsea will win the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino.
What’s the story?
Well, Boehly seems to have plenty of confidence in the South American, as he reacted positively to being told that Chelsea will win the Premier League.
The 49-year-old said: “Yep, Mauricio is gonna be great.”
It will take a lot for Pochettino to drag Chelsea back to the summit of English football after the 2022/23 campaign’s 12th place finish, especially when a juggernaut such as Manchester City are in such fine shape.
Nevertheless, Chelsea fans should at least hope to see the Blues muscle their way back into the Premier League’s top six, where Brighton and Newcastle have now gatecrashed the party.
Pochettino has an exciting group at his disposal, including gems such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Carney Chukwuemeka, Enzo Fernandez, Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke, so there is no reason why the 51-year-old can’t be a success.
Boehly must back Pochettino at Chelsea
Boehly has already shown signs of following in Abramovich’s footsteps by sacking two managers during his first season at the helm.
Neither of those decisions had a positive impact on Chelsea.
Graham Potter was sacked after just seven months, without the chance to even have a pre-season with his squad.
Sackings are not always the answer, and Boehly must learn from how the 2022/23 campaign went when times inevitably get tough for Pochettino.
No manager has a consistently smooth ride, and hopefully – like Arsenal did with Mikel Arteta – Chelsea back Pochettino rather than sack him if his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge becomes turbulent.
