How Trevoh Chalobah feels about playing under Enzo Maresca after being frozen out by Chelsea

There looks to be a real possibility of Trevoh Chalobah returning to Chelsea this month.

Trevoh Chalobah joined Crystal Palace on loan in the last transfer window after being exiled from Chelsea’s first-team squad.

However, injuries mean the Blues could try to add another centre-back to their ranks this winter.

And it is believed that recalling Chalobah is one option that Chelsea are currently considering. His loan at Palace is going well, with the 25-year-old making 12 appearances and scoring three goals in the Premier League.

Trevoh Chalobah not against Chelsea return

If Chalobah’s time at Palace is brought to an abrupt end and he is forced to return to Chelsea, you could not blame him for being upset with his parent club.

Again, his loan spell in south London is proving to be a productive one, while Chelsea did not treat him too kindly last summer.

However, it does not look like the above will be the case, as according to the Daily Mail, Chalobah is actually keeping an open mind about the possibility of returning to Chelsea and playing under Enzo Maresca.

There is no guarantee that the Blues recall him, though, especially with there being interest in his Palace teammate Marc Guehi. It is now being reported that Chelsea are considering re-signing Guehi from their London rivals.

What did Enzo Maresca say about Trevoh Chalobah last summer?

Understandably, Maresca was asked about Chalobah’s omission from Chelsea’s squad for their pre-season tour of America last summer.

Chalobah is a Chelsea academy graduate and finished the 2023/24 campaign as an important player for Mauricio Pochettino.

Discussing Chalobah’s first-team exile in a press conference, which was relayed by the Evening Standard, Maresca said: “First of all, from my point of view, it’s always sad to leave players out, that can be out of a pre-season, or can be out of the squad or out of the first eleven because in the end they all work for the same target, that is to be part of the same team.

“The Trevoh situation for me is quite clear, we have Axel [Disasi] there, we have Tosin Adarabioyo there, we have Wes Fofana who in these two weeks has worked very good and is finally back, we have some very young profiles like Josh Acheampong who is doing fantastic. It’s a sad decision but we have to take the decision.”

Following injuries to Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, the club now look to be singing a completely different tune.

It is early days in the transfer window, but Chelsea are already making it an interesting one. Chalobah and Guehi are certainly two names to keep an eye on this month.
