Paul Merson has made a pretty bold prediction ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham on Monday night.

There’s a fascinating London derby taking place in a few days time, with Spurs hosting Chelsea in the Premier League.

The Blues lost 2-0 on their last visit to Spurs back in February, but there’s two different individuals in the manager’s dugout this time around.

Spurs, who look reenergised since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival in the summer, currently sit undefeated at the top of the league table.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are mid-table and desperately searching for some consistency.

Paul Merson prediction

Merson, who’s a Chelsea fan, has tipped the Blues to come away from Spurs with all three points.

It’s certainly not a pre-match prediction we expect to see from many pundits out there, but he’s got a case that Chelsea do look stronger against the better and more expansive sides.

“I’ll be there in North London for this one and I don’t see Chelsea getting beat. Teams that have had a go at the Blues this season haven’t had it easy, as was the case for Arsenal and Liverpool. Spurs will come out all guns blazing and start on the front foot and I think that will play to Chelsea’s strengths,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“I’m not underestimating Tottenham, but I fancy Chelsea to win this one.

“Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Chelsea.”

Chelsea the underdogs

We’ve not said it much during this fixture for the past couple of decades, but Chelsea do start Monday’s trip to Spurs as the underdogs.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Pochettino’s side can compete physically and with the pace of the opposition.

On paper, Chelssea’s two toughtest league games this season have been Liverpool and Arsenal. It’s worth remembering they’ve drawn both, but you could make a strong case to say they should have won each match.

Speaking via BBC Sport this week, Pat Nevin suggested Postecoglou would have had an equally difficult start at Chelsea if he were in Pochettino’s shoes this season. We can’t wait to see this clash of managers on Monday!
