Steve Nicol predicts that Chelsea will go out and sign Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix in a marquee transfer.

Portuguese star Felix, 23, is an exciting attacker with so much individual talent.

The dynamic forward can dazzle on a football pitch with his speed and dribbling, but 33 goals in 129 Atletico appearances does highlight the fact his finishing can still improve.

Nicol predicts Chelsea will sign Felix

ESPN pundit Steve Nicol believes that Todd Boehly still wants to make a bigger mark in his role as Chelsea’s co-owner.

Therefore, he’s suggested Felix’s name as a player he can picture the Blues trying to sign.

“You get the feeling that Boehly still wants people to know his name. I get the feeling he’ll turn around and sign a big name. Maybe Joao Felix,” Nicol told ESPN.

“I’m thinking a Joao Felix somebody like that, which actually would make some sense.

“I just get the feeling he still wants that spotlight by signing somebody for a lot of money.”

Blues speculation

In fairness, Chelsea are already linked with Atletico Madrid’s attacker so it doesn’t seem completely out of the question.

According to 90min earlier this month, Atletico want to earn at least £100million from any potential Felix sale. The report does mention that Chelsea are one of the clubs to be offered the opportunity to sign the 23-year-old.

Some high-profile names have played for both Atletico and Chelsea over the years. For example, the likes of Diego Costa, Thibaut Courtois, Fernando Torres and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have represented both.

Will Felix be the latest to join that list?

If Potter wants the player and has an idea of how to use him, it’s a really exciting transfer target to pursue.
