Michael Owen was left in awe of Cole Palmer’s individual brilliance after watching Chelsea beat Newcastle United yesterday in the Premier League.

Chelsea kept themselves in the conversation for the European positions by winning 3-2 at home to Newcastle on Monday night.

For Cole Palmer, it was another impactful game for him in Chelsea colours.

The 21-year-old right-winger scored one and assisted another to steer the Blues to three valuable points.

It’s now 13 goals and 11 assists in only 33 Chelsea appearances. The way the youngster’s hit the ground running at a new club in a new city has been quite astonishing to witness!

Premier League great Michael Owen couldn’t contain his admiration for Chelsea’s Palmer after seeing his latest Chelsea display yesterday at Stamford Bridge.

Owen told Premier League productions (10:12pm): “I like Cole Palmer a lot. He’s making a late run for England’s EURO squad I think – Gareth Southgate was there tonight and I’m sure he’ll have been watching him. There’s so many good players in that position but he’s in great form and I love the way he plays. You can give the ball to him in tight spaces and that shows he’s got the trust of his team-mates – that’s a great thing.”

It was another reminder this week of how important Palmer’s become in this Chelsea side.

He’s now been directly involved in 40 per cent of Chelsea’s 47 Premier League goals this season, so we dread to think where the team would be without him this year.

His goal versus Newcastle showed the kind of confidence he’s playing with, taking one touch to control an Enzo Fernandez pass and shooting a low finish into the goal with his second touch.

Speaking via X during the Blues win over Newcastle, Alan Shearer labelled Palmer as “superb” for his individual display.

If he continues this vein of form for the rest of the season, we think Palmar could be in with a great shout of winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
