‘I really do feel that’… Steve Sidwell makes claim about Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has been up against it from day one as Chelsea boss and things look very bleak for him.

That is according to Steve Sidwell.

The Blues sit 11th in the Premier League table right now during yet another disappointing season, with Maurico Pochettino unable to drastically improve things during his first year in the manager’s dugout.

The Guardian recently claimed that Chelsea’s plan is to wait until the end of the season before reviewing Pochettino’s position as the head coach.

However, there’s clearly real frustration within the fanbase right now.

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella shared via X that Chelsea supporters were even chanting Jose Mourinho’s name during last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Brentford.

Steve Sidwell has claimed that the Chelsea job has been a “road to nowhere” for Pochettino. He even suggested that the Blues ownership could listen to the bad noise coming from the fans and make a change in the dugout.

Speaking on The Peter Crouch podcast, Sidwell said: “I think this is the first time we have seen the fans on Poch’s back. When he came through the door he was always up against it because of the Spurs connection and then I felt with his history of working with youngsters and making them better, like he did at Southampton and Tottenham, this was built up for him. But it feels like this was a road to nowhere for him. I really do feel that. Once the fans start, the board always tend to listen.”

We dread to imagine the atmosphere inside the Bridge if Chelsea do lose to Newcastle United on Monday night.

We’ll see in time if Pochettino can turn things around, but our gut feeling at this moment is that he won’t be in charge for the opening day of next season.

There’s still time to climb the league table into the European positions, plus there’s an FA Cup quarter-final tie versus Leicester City around the corner, but the general mood feels very low right now.
