Gary Lineker admits Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk is beginning to win him over with some of his recent performances.

Mykhailo Mudryk has come under plenty of scrutiny during his first 12 months as a Chelsea player. His £89 million deal (BBC) piled a lot of pressure on him to hit the ground running in English football.

The 22-year-old attacker’s form has been quite inconsistent and frustrating, but we’re still confident about his potential moving forward.

He’s scored two goals in his last three Blues appearances to signal a small turn in his fortunes, so hopefully he’s getting ready for a big 2024.

Gary Lineker impressed

Gary Lineker has confessed that he’s really starting to rate Mudryk following some recent Chelsea displays.

Lineker told The Rest Is Football podcast: “We have talked about their signings but I see something in Mudryk. I think there is something in there. He scored a goal, he has three goals now, he is quick. He shows a few signs, he ought to as he cost £100 million but that’s not his fault.”

Mykhailo Mudryk quality

Mudryk ticks so many boxes when you look at him as a player. Therefore, we’re really excited about the kind of impact he can make if everything clicks into gear for him under Mauricio Pochettino.

The left-winger’s pace is truly explosive, making him a nightmare for defenders. His defensive work tracking back is admirable, too.

If the Ukrainian star can find more composure and make some smarter movements infield, Chelsea do have a serious talent on their hands.

Speaking via Sky Sports this month, Jamie Redknapp suggested that Mudryk could learn so much from Blues teammate Raheem Sterling in attack.

It feels like the starting positions in the forward positions are still very much up for grabs at Stamford Bridge, so Mudryk’s got the potential to make himself a regular if he starts chipping in with more goals and assists.

Despite the huge price tag, let’s remember he’s still a relatively inexperienced youngster working to improve his craft.
